Disscussion director

How did the three boys manage to sneak over to the french ladies house?What action did they have to do? In order to complete their journey the boys needed to swim through the river.

What does paul think after taking his leave for 17 days about his fellow soilders? Paul isnt sure they will even survive until he gets back.

What illness does pauls mother have when he returns to his hometown to see her? Pauls mom has cancer.

Why is paul punished to march in the street and salute? Paul did not honor and salute to the major.

Why does paul say he wishes he never came home? Paul says that it makes him feel sad and have alot of pain, he also thinks he is hurting his mom emotionally.

The questions that you asked were all very tough. I agree with all the answers, they were all correct.

All of the questions were very good. The answers could have been a little more specific such as saying which major Paul didn't salute.

These questions are good in the sense that they show how Paul Baumer's situation changed. He went from fighting on the front lines trying to survive every day to finally coming back home for the first time in a few years. The war has changed Paul and he feels scared to be home.
