1. Excerpt one describes the skills that soldiers devolop over the years. This shows that the soldiers have been in war for a very long time.
2. Excerpt two describes how scared Paul was. Fear completly took over his body. Situations like this cause soldiers to become shellshocked.
Both these quotes state what the war has done to Paul. In the first quote, the war has given Paul the ability to tell if a smaller artillery shell is coming at him so he has a better chance of survival. The second quote shows how much Paul's attitide about fighting the war changed. In the beginning of the book, he was eager to fight but now it seems that he is scared and wants to go home.
i agree these are really important quotes that reflect important aspects of the book. the first one also reflects how the soldiers help the recruits to survive. The second quote was also a very important quote to understanding the story and the horrors of war which appears to be a theme of the book.
The first quote also shows how the recruits are under expirienced and if they dont develop the skills they need to survive or have a person who has been on the front a while teach them then they will die.
This quote shows how Paul has been struck by fear and has been shell shocked. It also shows how badly he wants the war to end so he can go back home.
The first passage talks about the skills a soilder developes in order to survive. The war has brought alot of fear within Paul, so he wants to go back to his mother.
