Paul is depressed that because his mother is sad and he has changed because of his expirience in the war.

Paul wants to go back home and be a regular person with a regular life. The painof the war has caused him to lose the will to fight in it.

Paul doesnt percive his enemies as people to kill because he feels they are just like him and just want the war to be over.

He feels more akward when he enters his house. He was thinking differently because he has just been in war and has not been home for a very long time.

He doesnt want to fight anymore because he says that he wants to die with his mother.

Becuase he views them as his own. He says that they are no different from him, just a person told to fight another mans war.
